The Market
What Actually Drives Business in Garland
Garland had 246,018 residents in the 2020 Census, making it the 13th-largest city in Texas. It is also one of the state’s biggest manufacturing centers, with more than 300 manufacturers according to the city’s economic development office. The median household income is $74,717 and the median home value is $248,900 (Census ACS, 2019 to 2023). The median home was built in 1978, which keeps repair and remodeling work in steady demand.
Garland is also one of the most diverse cities in the Metroplex. About 45% of residents are Hispanic, nearly a third were born outside the U.S., and the city says it has the 14th-largest Vietnamese community in the country. Buyers here watch value closely and trust businesses their own community vouches for. An ad that could run unchanged in any suburb gives them no reason to choose you.
Why Isn’t Your Garland Marketing Producing Leads?
Many Garland businesses get the same package everyone else gets: a template website, a Google Ads campaign aimed at all of Dallas County, and a monthly report full of clicks. When the ads speak to nobody in particular and the budget spreads into areas you don’t serve, you’re paying for clicks from people who were never going to hire you.
The Waste Is Usually in the Settings
Budgets usually leak through details nobody checks: service areas drawn too wide, keywords too broad, every click sent to the homepage, and no negative keywords to block people searching for a competitor by name. An owner can’t see any of that in a one-page summary, and that’s exactly where the money goes.
FEATURED LAW: THE GIRLFRIEND EFFECT
If Your Ad Opens With Your Name, Garland Buyers Have Already Scrolled Past
Relevance comes before identity. Nobody cares what your company is called until you’ve shown you can solve their problem. Most local ads still open with a logo, a founding year, or “family owned.” In a city this diverse, a buyer needs to see their own situation in the first line: their aging water heater, their language, their budget.
So I cover the first sentence of every ad and landing page and ask one question: does it name something the reader wants before it names the company? If it doesn’t, it gets rewritten. Your name goes at the end, where it lands after you’ve earned the attention.
That is The Girlfriend Effect, one of the laws every engagement runs through. Related: The Four Core Marketing Abilities.
Picture two plumbing ads on the same Garland search page. One says “Trusted, family owned, best prices.” The other says “House built in the ’70s? We fix slab leaks without tearing up your floors.” Both companies might do equally good work. Only one of them named what the homeowner was afraid of losing.
SAY WHAT THEY’RE AFRAID OF. THEN SAY YOUR NAME.
THE DIFFERENCE
How I Work Differently in Garland
Everyone talks about strategy. I show the work. On a shared screen, I open your ad account and walk through who saw your ads, what they searched for, and where each dollar went. For most Garland owners, it’s the first time anyone has shown them those details instead of a summary.
01
Copy Only You Could Run
If a competitor could put their logo on your ad without changing a word, the ad isn’t doing its job. I replace phrases like “quality service” with specifics a buyer can check: response times, warranties, and the problems you solve most often. Law of Platitudes
02
Every Dollar Tied to Revenue
Before we spend anything, we agree on the number you’ll think about when you sign the monthly check, whether that’s booked jobs, new accounts, or revenue. Every report starts with that number, and impressions and clicks come second. The Check-Writing Test
